A Brief History

The original Forensic Science Camps (The Ultimate Challenge) provide an opportunity for like minded people, our gifted and talented students to work together over a five day period using forensic skills to solve a crime.

The format was conceived by Kel Hardingham, a science teacher at The Armidale School (TAS) who ran the first camp in 1993.   Kel gained a BHP Science Teacher Award in recognition of the quality of the concept.

In 2006 and 2008, Bill Toppin ran very successful camps at Hutchins, drawing students from around Tasmania.  The Tasmanian camp The Ultimate Challenge continues the tradition of the Armidale camps - ensuring an intense, problem solving, extended challenge for gifted and talented students.

In 2009, Bill ran the first Introduction to Forensic Science Camp, a camp designed for all students in Years 7 and 8. This Introductory Camp has been improved and now is to be run as The Sacrificial Cat?

The new forensic science challenge - The Sacrificial Cat? is designed for Years 6 to 9. It can be run at school for up to 5 days or as part of a normal Science course. It is best suited to running in larger blocks of time.
